Common Chiropractic Misconceptions
Misconceptions about Chiropractic in our city? There are certainly some misconceptions about chiropractic, but chiropractic has made significant progress in clearing up these misnomers in recent years. Chiropractic has become much more accepted within the medical community for care and relief of spine-related injuries including neck pain, low back pain, headaches, and pain in the arms and legs associated with spine-related injuries. Chiropractic has been proven safe and effective for multiple injuries of the neck and back. It is been shown through research to be more effective than physical therapy alone or the utilization of medication alone.
Chiropractors just help neck and back pain.
While the majority of the complaints we see are neck and back pain related, Chiropractors help much more than just neck and back pain. We commonly care for and have great success with headaches, both tension headaches and migraine, sciatica, disc herniation, disc bulges, pinched nerves, hip pain, shoulder pain, carpal tunnel, knee and ankle pains, sprain/strains, muscle aches and pain, and whiplash related conditions.
If you’ve had back or neck surgery, you cannot see a chiropractor.
Not true, we see patients who have had neck and back surgery frequently, whether it be a fusion, discectomy, laminectomy, or other surgical spine procedure, we have great success treating and working with these patients.
Chiropractors only use adjustments.
While adjustments are a common method chiropractors do utilize, we offer a wide array of care options. At Palmetto Spine and Pain, we know that no two patients are alike, we focus on isolating the cause of your condition, and offer customized care options that are specific to each individual’s unique needs. Our care plans may include decompression, traction, muscle stimulation, soft tissue techniques, and therapeutic exercises designed to improve strength, stabilization, proprioception, posture, and balance.
Getting adjusted hurts.
Many people have heard that Chiropractors “snap, crack or pop” the joints. This sounds painful and it is not a good description of what is being done by what Chiropractors refer to as an “adjustment”. There are multiple ways to adjust the injured and involved joints. The best method will be chosen to provide you with safe, gentle, and effective care of your injuries.
Why I became a Chiropractor in Chapin SC
I decided to become a chiropractor in Chapin SC because Chapin SC is home. Chapin SC is where we have chosen to live, raise our family, it is where our closest friends and family reside. We chose to invest our time in our community – including work – to give Chapin SC the best chiropractic care we can deliver. My wife and I started Palmetto Spine and Pain to provide the people of our community with first-class, progressive health care that is individualized to each patient’s needs.
"Dr Stellfox has been excellent with not only my care, but my father, daughter, brother and sister-in-law’s as well! We all have different needs and he has helped each of us in big ways! We love that he has the decompression table for my dad, the aqua massage unit for myself and dad, and the roller massage tables for us all! Dr Stellfox’s assistant, Maddie is so kind, easy to talk to an excellent at what she does too!"
